HERIT4AGES Solutions Installed at the Spanish Demo Sites

The HERIT4AGES project has reached an important milestone with the implementation of renovation solutions at its Spanish demonstration sites in Canduela and Aguilar de Campoo.

Over recent weeks, partners from Łukasiewicz – Warszawski Instytut Technologiczny (LWIT), Fundación Santa María la Real del Patrimonio Histórico (FSMLR), CETIM and other project teams worked together to install and assess HERIT4AGES solutions in real-life conditions.

At the Heritage Testing Lab located in the Romanesque Hermitage of Canduela, wall and floor panel solutions were successfully installed. The site will also allow the project to compare the performance of HERIT4AGES panels with commercially available alternatives, providing valuable information for future evaluation activities.

Progress was also achieved at the Posada Santa María la Real Living Lab in Aguilar de Campoo. Ceiling panels were successfully installed despite the challenges presented by the building’s irregular and curved surfaces. The floor solution is progressing well and will be finalised during a follow-up installation visit. The installation process involved close collaboration between project partners and local stakeholders to ensure that the implemented solutions remained compatible with both heritage requirements and user needs.

The implementation phase demonstrated the importance of the HERIT4AGES co-creation approach. Throughout the installation process, local stakeholders had the opportunity to observe the work, provide feedback and contribute to decision-making. Discussions involved hotel management, heritage experts and project partners, helping optimise both technical and practical aspects of the solutions.

The installation activities were further supported by CETIM, which contributed expertise during the implementation process, and by the HERIT4AGES monitoring team, which repositioned sensors and carried out maintenance activities to prepare the next phase of monitoring. These sensors will continue collecting data to assess the performance of the implemented solutions and their impact on indoor environmental conditions.

Partners involved in the activities highlighted the value of on-site collaboration and knowledge exchange, which allowed practical experience from the demonstration sites to directly inform project implementation. The installations also provided an opportunity to engage with stakeholders and gather valuable feedback that will support the future validation of HERIT4AGES solutions.

The successful progress achieved in Canduela and Aguilar de Campoo represents another important step towards validating HERIT4AGES solutions in real heritage buildings and demonstrating their potential to support sustainable renovation while preserving cultural heritage values.
